Doublecortin or DCX is a microtubule associated protein that seems to be required for initial steps of neuronal dispersion and cortex lamination during cerebral cortex development. Mutations in the gene encoding of this protein have been linked to the double cortex syndrome. Doublecortin is highly expressed by neuronal precursor cells and immature neurons but do not occur in mature neurons. The expression of doublecortin declines, the more the neurons differentiate into mature neurons. In the adult dentate gyrus it is only expressed in cells contributing to adult neurogenesis. Due to the nearly exclusive expression of DCX in developing neurons, this protein has been used increasingly as a marker for neurogenesis.
Synaptic Systems offers a rabbit, guinea pig and chicken polyclonal antibody against DCX. All of them show superior results in WB, IP, IHC and IHC-P (FFPE) applications. We also offer additional antibodies against proteins that play a role in neuronal development, for example against the transcription factor SATB2.
