FAQ - What is the concentration of antigen specific IgGs in polyclonal antiserum?

IgG polyclonal serum contains a variety of additional proteins - such as albumin and non-specific immunoglobulins - that interfere with accurate protein quantification. Because only a small proportion of the total IgG fraction targets the immunizing antigen, while the majority binds unrelated antigens, the exact concentration of antigen-specific antibodies in polyclonal serum cannot be determined.
