Founded in 1997 by renowned scientists from the Max Planck Institute in Göttingen, Synaptic Systems GmbH began with the goal of making their well-established, high-quality antibodies against synaptic proteins available to the global research community. The strong demand for these reliable research reagents quickly established the company as a trusted partner in neuroscience research.
In 2002, we expanded our capabilities by setting up our own fully equipped research laboratory, enabling continuous product refinement and the development of new antibodies.
Over the years, our antibody portfolio has been complemented by a selection of specialized kits and probes, including photolabile calcium chelators and our unique, innovative fixable membrane dyes (mCLINGs). These dyes are fully compatible with downstream immunostaining applications, making them powerful tools for advanced cell biology and imaging research.
Our antibody development pipeline has been made available as a custom monoclonal antibody service, offering tailor-made antibody solutions designed to meet your specific research needs and budget.
Close collaboration with academic institutions and our customers, combining the experience of our highly skilled scientists with the specialized expertise of our partners, has always been a priority. Till today, this cooperative approach has ensured the development of high-quality, application-focused antibodies.
In 2015, Synaptic Systems GmbH provided venture capital to establish NanoTag Biotechnologies, a company specializing in the development of camelid single-domain antibodies. Since its founding, NanoTag Biotechnologies has evolved into a highly successful company. One of its key achievements is the development of the patented ALFA-Tag system — a versatile and efficient tagging platform for protein detection, purification, and imaging. These innovative reagents — including both primary and secondary antibodies — complement and enhance our existing antibody portfolio, expanding its capabilities with cutting-edge nanobody technology.
In 2017, we launched our HistoSure product line, featuring antibodies specifically developed for cancer and immunology research. Like all our products, HistoSure antibodies have been available exclusively under the Synaptic Systems brand.
Each antibody is produced and rigorously tested in our own facilities to ensure the highest standards of quality, reliability, and performance. All HistoSure antibodies are developed and validated according to our dedicated Quality Guidelines.
In 2025 we created the SYSY Antibodies brand to reflect the company’s development beyond its original focus on neuroscience and synaptic research. While our roots lie in developing high-quality antibodies for neurobiology, our expertise and product portfolio have expanded to serve a much broader range of research fields.
This now includes the antibodies from our specialized HistoSure product line, dedicated to cancer research and immunology. By bringing all research areas together under the unified SYSY Antibodies brand, we emphasize our commitment to supporting scientists across diverse disciplines of life science with the same trusted quality and scientific excellence that define our work.
