The choice of a peptide antigen is one of the most important and challenging steps in the development of an antibody. Several aspects like water solubility, proteasomal processing, secondary structure, similarity to other proteins, post-translational modifications, etc. have to be considered. Nevertheless, the relative influence of these parameters on the final quality of the antigen is not yet fully understood and may differ from case to case.
