Immunogen Full length mouse recombinant CaBP 5 (UniProt Id: D3ZW89)
Reactivity Reacts with: mouse (Q9JLK3), rat (D3ZW89).
Other species not tested yet.
Specificity Due to sequence homology, the antibody may exhibit some cross-reactivity to CaBP1, 2, 3 and 4.
Remarks

IHC: Brief immersion fixation of retina samples give best results. For over night fixed tissues, a heat mediated antigen retrieval (AGR) step is recommended.

Background

Calcium binding protein 5 (CaBP 5) belongs to a subfamiliy of neuronal Ca2+ binding proteins (CaBP 1-5) that show a high similarity to Calmodulin (1).
It is expressed in rod and cone bipolar cells of the retina (1) and cochlea inner hair cells of the ear (2).
CaBPs are involved in the modulation of voltage gated calcium channels, TRP channels and inositol1,4,5-triphosphate (IP3) receptors (2).
A CaBP 5 K.O. model suggests that this Ca-binding protein is involved in the rod-mediated response across the retina (3).
